Christian Therapy

Therapy vs. Christian Therapy

Christians seek therapy for the same reasons others do – they need help with something that is going on in their life. It could be anxiety, depression, relationship issues, loss, or career challenges, just to name a few possibilities.

But the “why” behind the decision to seek a Christian therapist most often has to do with a desire to feel secure bringing faith into therapy.

For many Christians, working with someone who shares and values the vital place their relationship with God has in their lives is a crucial aspect of feeling safe in therapy.

Faith matters to you.

If you’re seeking Christian therapy, you want to integrate your relationship with God into your healing process. Having a therapist who understands and supports your desire to honor and incorporate your core values into your life therapy can help.

You need to be able to relax and trust that the input and feedback you get align with the spiritual truths of your faith.

Spirituality matters to you.

Why mention spirituality?

Spirituality is “the quality of being concerned with the human spirit or soul as opposed to material or physical things.”

By definition, therapy itself is spiritual because it deals with the essence of who we are, what we feel and long for, and our need to be known and loved.

It’s about connecting with others so that we aren’t alone, drifting through life without an anchor.

And to me, as well.

As a Christian therapist, I support your desire to make decisions in line with what matters to you and to keep your relationship with God central in your life.

I’ll help you work through the process of healing and forgiveness from the hurts you’ve experienced, sometimes even in the church.

I’ll fight with you to save your marriage, rather than suggest you move on to someone new.

I’ll pray with you for the restoration and change that you’re seeking.

Science meets faith.

Psychology continues to reveal the science behind our humanity. It excites me that research recognizes connections between the emotional and spiritual – and even the physical.

Scientific research has determined that gratefulness is the most powerful emotion. People who practice it have better health, more profound satisfaction in their work, and feel closer to their loved ones.

Other studies show that practicing forgiveness can reduce the risk of heart attack, lower cholesterol, and reduce pain, blood pressure, anxiety, and depression.

Don’t worry if we believe different things.

It’s entirely up to you. Many of my clients successfully complete therapy without any focus on spirituality in their healing process.

I respect you and your beliefs.

I’ll be a supportive and healing presence while you work through your challenges and treat you with honor, compassion, and sensitivity.

Let me walk with you.

I will honor our relationship with God throughout your therapy journey in the way that feels most comfortable to you.
